RHODE ISLAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REPRESENTATIVES
Top Rhode Island winners from each section are eligible to participate in the R.I. Closed Invitational Scholastic Championship Tournament on April 18, 2026, which will determine the Top 3 Player representatives from Rhode Island for U.S. Chess Federation National Denker (High School), Barber (Middle School) & Rockefeller (Elementary) to participate at the U.S. Chess National Tournament of State Champions in Grand Rapids, MI in August, 2026. ENTRY FEES
* Early-Bird Registration: is $49 per player Extended to Mon. 3/30. Discount Team 4 Entries = $180 ($45 each x 4 players). Parents, coaches, & spectators have free entry
* Regular Registration: is $55 from Mon. 3/30 – Fri. 4/3. Regular TEAM Entry Fee is $200 ($50 each x 4 players)
* Late Registration: The Day of the event Sat. 4/4 = $65 Entry. No Team Discounts.
* Note = Entry Fees have increased this year because of (Venue) Hotel Cost & Trophy Price Increases
DISCOUNT TEAM ENTRY FEE: Schools with 4 OR MORE PLAYERS or SIBLINGS are Eligible for a -$5 Discount
“ENTRY FEE DISCOUNT.” Note: Top 4 Team Player scores will counted for each “Team Score” – For example, If a team has 6-8 players, the top 4 scores will be counted. Team with 8+ players or more should consider registering 2 Teams (A-Team & B-Team). Players will not paired against each other unless they are competing for 1st Place champion in round 3 or 4.
DISCOUNT – SIBLINGS: Siblings receive -$5 discount on each entry. $45 if register by Sun. 3/29

* OPEN TO OUT-OF-STATE STUDENTS FROM RI, MA, CT, NH, VT, NY & EVERY STATE. Last Year 120+ Players - * Top Out-of-State Winner is eligible for separate 1st Place trophy, Top R.I. 1st Place Champions must be from R.I.
- * Tournament will Start ON-TIME at 9:00 AM – Late Entries after 8:40 may receive 1/2 pt. bye
- * You can still register and play as an individual with no team
- * Team Competition: Each school’s team score is calculated by adding points from the top 4 players on that team. Must have minimum of 3 players for a team. Maximum limit is 7 per team. Teams with 8-10+ players or more should consider registering as two teams, each with 4-5 players on each team as “A” & “B” Teams to avoid pairing issues. Accelerated pairings may be used only in rounds 1 & 2.
