Chess Tournament at Providence’s Premier High School

Location: Classical High School, 770 Westminster St, Providence, RI 02903
(Entrance to Tournament in rear of building, near tennis courts, see signs)

Format: 4SS, G/30; +5 – 4 Rounds. Each player gets 30 minutes with a 5 second increment

Round 1 starts @ 10:00 AM. Rounds will continue continuously afterward (short break for lunch)

SECTIONS & PRIZES $500 Guaranteed & Trophies
* OPEN = $250 – $100, plus Trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place
* U1700 = $100 – $50, plus Trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place
* 1st Place Biggest Upset Trophy (Open/U1700 Sections)
* U1200 = Trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, Medals
* U800 = Trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, Medals

PAUL E. TAYLOR (1924-2011) – Paul E. Taylor, 87, of Warwick, served in the United States Army during World War II. He was an avid chess player and fisherman and in his retirement organized several chess clubs for both youth and seniors and was himself a Class A rated (1856) tournament player. He ran multiple scholastic youth chess tournaments, donating the trophies and his time. The R.I. High School League Championship Trophy is named the “TAYLOR TROPHY” in honor of his work in scholastic chess and years organizing the R.I. Scholastic Chess League.
